If you’ve watched the Oscars, I’m sure that you know, Leonardo DiCaprio finally claims his first Best Actor Awards for ‘The Revenant’ after six nominations. And before the ceremony, there were discussions about his bad luck of not winning an award in the past Oscars. Some even said Leonardo was too young for the award back at the Titanic times, when he was only 23.
Without any doubts, Leonardo definitely is one of the finest actors we have these days. But what lies behind the glittering award ceremony, and what takes to get the Oscar statuette are purely hard work or even, sacrifice. Little did we know that Leonardo even developed obsessive-compulsive disorder for a role. It happened when he was preparing to star as Howard Hughes in ‘The Aviator’, the character who has the same condition, that he delved too deep and developed the condition himself. He did get nominated for the Best Actor that year, but the award went to Jamie Foxx instead.
Talking about extreme sacrifices made by actors for a role, there are even more cases than you thought. Tom Hanks was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes after shedding a sum of at least 30 kg for his roles in ‘Philadelphia’ and ‘Castaway’. Mickey Rourke cut himself in the face by a hidden razor blade in the making of ‘The Wrestler’ in 2008. So, as you see, success does come with hard work. Every winner of the Oscars deserves the recognition and fame, including Leonardo. I am sure his effort has finally paid off by now.
And for all you Leonardo fans out there, according to the Vanity Fair, he is going to play a serial killer in a long-awaited adaptation of a popular book, ‘Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America’. Let’s look forward to that movie and have our fingers crossed for it to come out as soon as possible for now.
